Contemplative Education

overleg.jpg This website about contemplative education from the Centre of Contemplative Practices (Centrum Contemplatieve Werkwijzen) aims to use insights and practices from the Buddhist wisdom tradition, making them accessible in a practical way and without jargon, and to integrate them into existing educational practices. We believe this makes education more challenging and more personal, without losing effectiveness.

Contemplative practices and content in education

The term contemplative refers to the development of mindfulness and awareness. With mindfulness and awareness, teachers and learners are better able to live, to learn, and to deal with others in the here and now. With mindfulness and awareness, the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behavior is more in balance. Therefore, these teachers and learners have fewer beliefs and judgments about themselves and others, and they are more directly involved with what goes on around them.

The term practices signifies that we strive for practical ways in which contemplative education can be shaped in the teaching-learning situation for teachers as well as learners. The contemplative practices and content are described in an accessible way and integrated into existing theories and insights.

General contemplative practices

In addition to this website, the Center for Contemplative Practices also manages a website which describes general contemplative practices. These contemplative practices can be applied in our daily life or work. This website is referred to regularly: www.contemplative.nl .
